FAQs about Malaysia-Singapore land borders’ vaccinated travel effective 1 April 2022

Starting 1 April 2022, Singapore and Malaysia will allow all fully-vaccinated travellers to cross the land border without undergoing quarantine on arrival, as well as drop all COVID-19 testing (including both pre-departure and on-arrival testing). This move has been agreed by Malaysia's Prime Minister Datuk Seri Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, and Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on 24 March 2022.


Malaysia's Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) has, on that note, has released a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) that travellers who are entering Malaysia can take note of. It covers various aspects of the vaccinated travel across the land borders - from a traveller's vaccination status, to a traveller's mode of land transport - and they are as follows:

Q Who are the eligible travellers under the Malaysia-Singapore vaccinated travel?

  • Fully-vaccinated travellers with COVID-19 vaccines recognised by Malaysia's Ministry of Health (MOH)

  • Fully-vaccinated travellers who are also short-term visitors from other countries for all purposes of travel.


Q How are you deemed eligible to be fully-vaccinated?

For individuals who are aged 18 to 59, any one of the following scenarios are applicable:

  • vaccinated with Sinovac - two doses (partially vaccinated); three doses (fully-vaccinated)

  • vaccinated with Sinopharm - two doses (partially vaccinated); three doses (fully-vaccinated)

  • vaccinated with Pfizer / Moderna / AstraZeneca / Covaxin / Covishield / Novavax / Sputnik V - two doses (fully-vaccinated); three doses ('boostered')

  • vaccinated with CanSino/Janssen/Sputnik Light - two doses (fully-vaccinated); three doses ('boostered')


For individuals who are aged 60 and above, any one of the following scenarios are applicable:

  • vaccinated with Sinovac - two doses (partially vaccinated); three doses (fully-vaccinated

  • vaccinated with Sinopharm - two doses (partially vaccinated); three doses (fully-vaccinated)

  • vaccinated with Pfizer / Moderna / AstraZeneca / Covaxin / Covishield / Novavax / Sputnik V - two doses (partially vaccinated); three doses (fully-vaccinated)

  • vaccinated with CanSino/Janssen/Sputnik Light - two doses (partially vaccinated); three doses (fully-vaccinated)


Q What are the travel requirements for crossing the Malaysia-Singapore land border?

  • Eligible travellers will not be subjected to pre-departure or on-arrival COVID-19 testing;

  • Children who are aged 12 and below will qualify for quarantine-free travel under the vaccinated travel into Malaysia without the need to show proof of vaccination;

  • Travellers are encouraged to use facilities such as EZ-Link or Touch 'n Go Motoring Card for swift movement across the border, and

  • Travellers entering Malaysia are required to download, register, and activate the MySejahtera app.


Q What are the categories of vehicles allowed under the vaccinated land travel?

  • Vaccinated-travel bus services operated by Malaysia and/or Singapore bus operators;

  • All public transport/services vehicles including chartered factory buses, cross-border bus services, employee buses, tour/express buses and taxi;

  • All private motor cars and motorcycles, and

  • Pedestrians are permitted to walk across the causeway.
